Stirling Moss Injured in Home Elevator Accident

The New York Times reports that Stirling Moss, considered by many to be the greatest driver never to win a Formula One championship, was injured in an accident that occurred this past Saturday at his home in London. An elevator in his home that he was working on malfunctioned, causing him to plummet three stories.

According to the report, Moss suffered two broken ankles along with breaking bones in his feet and damaging his vertebrae. However, Moss did not suffer any injuries to vital organs during the fall and is expected to make a full recovery.

Moss, 80, is considered to be one of the legends of the sport. He was knighted in 2000 for his achievements in Formula One, which included 16 wins in 66 starts during a career that lasted from 1951 through 1961. His career was cut short after an accident in 1962 that left him in a coma for six months and partially paralyzed the left side of his body.
