Raikkonen concedes championship chances are gone
Kimi Raikonnen has conceded that his chances of winning the championship have pretty much dissapeared
with his retirement from the Singaporean Grand Prix. His deficit to Lewis Hamilton is now 27 points and with only 30 points remaining from the last three races, it would take a miracle for him to clinch the title.
“It was a pretty small chance anyhow,” Raikkonen said about his title chances.I’m not sad for my fifth place but I’m sorry for the team to lose those points. But for sure we’ll try to do better next race.”

The F1 driver market
The following is a team-by-team update of their drivers and potential drivers for the 2009 season. This year isnt anywhere as exciting as last year but with Fernando Alonso on the move again we could see a flurry of last minute activity.
So far the standard announcements expected after Monza still havent come about with the exception of Ferrari’s announcement of Kimi Rakkonen’s contract extension to the end of the 2010 season. Read on for a team by team breakdown of the possible movements of drivers for next season.

Artificially rubber a track?
I was watching the coverage of the European GP recently and there were a lot of complaints about the track being green due to the lack of running prior to the first free practice on friday. So what happened then was that the front running teams sat back and waited while the usual midfield and lower teams swept the track cleaned and rubbered it in slightly.
Overnight rain meant that the saturday morning practice was also run on a “green” track and the process had to begin all over again. While this might not bother me sitting at home and watching it on TV, for the person who bought tickets to have to sit in the grandstand and watch a few cars come out for most of a practice session is just crazy.

Kubica signs new BMW deal for 2009
The British publication The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Robert Kubica has signed a one year extension with BMW Sauber for the 2009 season. This hasnt been confirmed yet but this leaves room for a potential jump to Ferrari for the 2010. There is unlikely to be confirmation of this for some time yet since Mario Theissen recently stated that they will be announcing their lineup between now and the end of the season.
