The Journey to Rum Point: Places to Visit with a Car Rental in Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is truly the gem of the pacific. Not as commercialized as Hawaii or the Bahamas, you can take your car rental in Grand Cayman and explore a whole variety of locations on the Island. Rum Point is considered the most secluded location on the Island. Although only a few miles away from the airport across the bay, the drive to Rum Point is can only be accessed by a 45 minute drive through the island. Rum Point is a great alternative to East End, another destination for privacy, during the winter months.

A Quiet Retreat

During the height of the cruise ship season, Seven Mile Beach can become a sea of people. For those who want to avoid crowded sands and need a little bit of peace and quiet, Rum Point is the perfect destination.  Rum Point is a prime location for snorkeling and private boat charters. Rum Pointe offers one of the only shaded beaches on the island, and many of the bathrooms on the beach include showers for convenience. With friendly locals and free WiFi, there is no better place to escape the hustle and bustle of life than Rum Point.

Getting There

Cayman car rentals are available all over Georgetown and are a necessary investment if you plan to take a trip to Rum Pointe. Transportation by Taxi is best for traveling within Georgetown or perhaps a short trip to Seven Mile Beach and Bodden Town. Fare is reported to be $150 on average one-way to Rum Pointe, so it just makes more sense to rent a cheap car that will take you up the Island to the North End. Driving to Rum Pointe is very safe because the roads are well maintained. When you do rent a car, remember that the Cayman Islands are a British Territory, so if you are vacationing from the States, everyone will be driving on the left-hand side.

Things to Do

Restaurants are open until the early evening, and close down with only drinks available. It’s important to plan around this or find a particular restaurant that is open later. Rum Point Restaurant is a popular destination for tourists in the area for dining. Enjoy your meal on the beach with quick and friendly service. There are boat tours that can take you to the popular Stingray City to pet the stingrays in waist deep water. Hotels vary from luxurious resorts to comfortable inns.
