A true luxury S-Class from Mercedes-Benz in China

Mercedes-Benz is the third largest luxury car maker in sales behind BMW and Volkswagen’s Audi. But when it comes to China, Mercedes-Benz S-Class outsells the two leaders accounting for one half of luxury car sales. No wonder why Mercedes-Benz is offering such luxuries including park-assist, night-vision packages, and even rear-seat entertainment which are considered optional that cost the buyer more as standards in China. Other perks for luxury car buyers include a 13-seat movie theater in a Shanghai dealership, a cigar room, and an in-house tea artist. The S-Class in China could cost $486,000 including import levies.

Most S-Class in China are chauffeur driven and therefore, Mercedes-Benz is offering 43.5-degree angle reclining rear seat as an option allowing a comfortable ride for long distance travel. When activated front passenger seat slide forward and the backrest recedes, a heal rest extends from the back of the front seat, a special airbag to prevent the passenger sliding under the seat belt and if opted a hot-stone massage function is built into the rear seat. Some estimates indicates that Mercedes-Benz profit margin on S-Class to be around 25 percent compared to much smaller profit margins for the other two luxury car makers.
