Ford Edge SEL EcoBoost

The Ford Edge cross over was introduced five years ago as an alternative to the Explorer SUV. It is a roomy sport utility while providing a carlike driving based on Ford Fusion sedan. Since its debut five years ago its look haven’t changed except 2011 upgrades to the interior, suspension and other elements.

The 2012 EcoBoost has a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine which is new. The 6-speed automatic transmission comes with four pistons. This as well as direct injection and twin turbo-chargers deliver 21 city and 30 highway miles to the gallon even with the two ton weight of the vehicle. The power plant produce 240 horsepower and more torque. EcoBoost only comes in FWD but not an AWD. Ford also offers 3.5-liter V6. The Edge has a very impressive acceleration.

The EcoBoost has muted engine and road noise. Interior has a very clean look. Hard plastic in the interior is covered by grained texture. The suspension provides a smoother ride. The base model cost $32,900. Safety features include antilock disc brakes, front side and side curtain air bags and stability control. It is rated “Good” by the Top Safety Pick. It comes with lot of communication options including SYNC. Touch screen could become a distraction.
